Sanford clinic helps new mothers manage high blood pressure
FARGO — One in 10 women develop hypertension for the first time after pregnancy, according to Boston University. Sanford is trying to make it more comfortable for patients who need treatment. This year, Sanford launched an outpatient clinic to help new mothers with hypertension. Women in their 30s face a much higher risk for hypertension. And with the CDC reporting the average age of new mothers is rising, postpartum hypertension is becoming an even bigger concern. "As women go through the continuum of their life from prior to childbearing years, during childbearing years, and after, helping keep their blood pressure and just overall health in general healthy is important," said Miranda Schaan, a nurse practitioner at Sanford Health. Sanford says they see between five and 10 patients a day in the outpatient clinic and that reviews have been positive.]]>
